The people in this room have been on the wrong end of automated decisions for years – in lending, in hiring, in whose face a camera focuses on. It would be strange to hand them a chatbot and call it empowerment.
So Mosaic uses AI deliberately, out loud, and with rules we are willing to be held to. This page is those rules.
Specific enough that you could catch us breaking them.
A values statement you cannot test is decoration. Each of these can be checked, and once the co-operative is incorporated its members can vote to change them.
We ask before we train on anything of yours
Your application, your numbers, the things you say in a session: none of it goes into a model without you being asked, in words, in advance. Saying no costs you nothing and changes nothing.
Akin is a guide, never a gate
No decision about your place at Mosaic is made by a machine. Applications are read by people. If we are ever tempted otherwise, this line is what we will be held to.
You can always see what it was told
The instructions Akin runs on are available to any founder who asks. A tool you cannot inspect is a tool you cannot trust with your business.
We will tell you when it is wrong
Akin makes things up sometimes. Every model does. We say so upfront rather than in a footnote, and we teach you how to catch it.
It does not replace an Auntie
A model has read a great deal and lived nothing. It cannot tell you what it felt like to raise your prices and lose a client. We are not going to pretend it can.
No AI likeness of a founder, ever
We will not generate a face, a voice or a quotation for anyone. Every photograph on this site is a real person who agreed to be part of the Mosaic community.

Akin is available to every founder from day one, cohort or Open Track. It knows the ten weeks, the rituals, the pricing and the Aunties, and it will point you at a person the moment a person is the right answer.
Its name means kin. That was not an accident, and neither is the fact that it introduces itself as a tool rather than a friend.

Akin is built by reGEN Impact Media, not by Mosaic. What follows is drawn from their own FAQ, so you can evaluate the tool for yourself. reGEN’s founder, Charlene SanJenko, is a two-time Indigenous founder from the Splatsin, Shuswap Nation, and an Auntie in the Village. The kinship Akin is built on is hers, and you can book an hour with her.
It builds a relationship, not a transcript
Most tools answer and forget. Akin remembers what you said mattered, notices the patterns you keep repeating, and brings them back to you.
You lead. Akin responds.
It will not direct you or decide for you. If you arrive with nothing to say, the onboarding modules give you somewhere to start.
10–15 minutes a day
Ground yourself, set the intention, name the priorities, take the aligned step. reGEN calls it the Daily High 5. Optional check-ins later run 2–5 min.
It is not coaching and not therapy
Akin does not diagnose, fix or direct. It helps you reflect and then gets out of the way of your own decision.

It compounds over 90 days
Days 1 to 3 are introductions. Days 4 to 14 build the friendship. Clarity turns up around day 15. The deeper work starts near day 60.

reGEN describes Akin as private by design. It is built and stored in Canada with a focus on privacy and data integrity. It is created by an Indigenous-led, woman-owned company (a Mosaic Alumna) with more than 25 years of work supporting women and intersecting marginalized communities. This is why we chose it.
Akin is still reGEN’s product rather than ours, so their terms govern it and ours govern Mosaic. Read both, and ask us if anything is unclear.

What it is actually good at
Akin builds a relationship with you over time rather than delivering one-off outputs. Akin supports reflection, prompts, and gentle reframes to help you move with clarity rather than react to noise.
What it is bad at
Knowing your customer. Pricing your work. Telling you the truth when you want reassurance. Anything where being confidently wrong is expensive.
What we will not teach
How to fake a review. How to generate a person who does not exist. How to flood a channel with text nobody asked for. These work, briefly, and then they cost you the thing you were building.
The oldest intelligence in the room is still the other people in it.
Twelve generations back it took 4,094 people for you to exist, and every one of them survived on pooled knowledge and somebody older and wiser saying do it this way instead. That is the intelligence Mosaic is built on.
The machine is useful. It is not the point. If we ever have to choose between the two, this paragraph is the record of which one we said we would keep.
